Manovich article response:
The article written by Lev Manovich on the Velvet Revolution gives me a full new understanding off hybrid media. Before reading the article, I had little knowledge about the “hybrid media” indeed. Though I can see hybrid media everywhere in my surroundings nowadays, I did not play attention to them much. According to Lev Manovich, the remix ability of visual media is revolutionary therefore brings things that never exist to a new age.
I think Manovich did well in showing a well developed history of the new media, also his examples of remix ability makes people easy to learn what is a “ hybrid media work”. His example of the After Effects is successful, since it bests illustrate the Velvet Revolution’s outcome. I am pretty interested in the section of remix ability . As he mentioned” the intersection of different media in the same software environment is cultural species”. ( Manovich,11) This is interesting. Clearly, there are thousands of ways to create artworks. But we are most familiar with are the traditional ways: painting or drawing. In the new era of 20th century, people begin to use different media tools trying to create new things. The combination of media always bring novel effects. For example, we can combine a music piece with a poster thus make it become a visual audio work. This way of creating media is interesting. Otherwise, the use of Photoshop, Motion and AI combine together is an example of remix ability. Indeed, such computer tools become new techniques for creating art.
Manovich linked the Velvet Revolution with the multiple media which I believe is interesting as well. He enabled the topic about multiple media to be profound with a history of how the new media affects art world and thus leads the art to a digital era.
In all, Manovich’s argument and views of the “visual language “ is interesting and effective. Throughout the reading, at least I learned many new softwares for artwork and understand the revolution of new art.

And I have three questions according to the article:
1.By saying “ Computer simulates all media”. What does Manovich mean by this?
2. What causes the Velvet Revolution happen and what results it brings out?
3. Is visual language the same meaning as “ remix ability art”, if not, what does it relate to?

Poetics of Augmented sponse
Do you think new media will developtowards a more multimodal form?
In Manovich’s article, his main idea addressed that our previous space has transformed into a bit of space with new elements and technology. In other sense, in the past, information and data presented in an immobilized way; now, people can gather data around us everywhere and the method to get data is various. Thus, I think this is a point that makes Augmented Reality special. The answer to the question is of course Yes. As Manovich thinks, AR’s development can back to centuries and it is still improving. In his article, he states that “A new technology is developed for military, business, orconsumer use, and after a while cultural institutions notice that some artistsare experimenting with that technology and so they start to incorporate it intheir programming.” The Augment Reality is just one form of new media, even this kind of media, as Manovich thinks, can be useful in architecture, museum and transform in other art. Overall, Manovich talks about the evolution of AR in the article. AR brings people new understanding of art indeed. People can touch the present and links it with past and future with AR. In other words, AR is a linkage more than an art form or meaning. Hence, because today our technology improves, and people uses new methods like AE and Photoshop to create art, all these kinds of combination can call” multimodal form” . Since AR allows an individual’s perspective to change with his or her perception, the multimodal form generates. Everyone views one object distinctively and therefore will cause new way or work happen. The definition of new media is complicated. In my perspective, a new media is just combination of several forms of art works. The artist applies kinds of ways and puts them together to create art. In the current society, this way to create art becomes common than before. In the past, when new technology has not been invented, a way to make art is single. That might be one form of art: oil, water-color or photos. But all these examples just use single way to create art. However, beginning with the technology invented, there are multiple ways to choose. The combination of computer and technology, surprisingly change the public’s view of what art is. Like I said before, AR is a kind of new art form. It allows people’s perspectives to change. In other sense, there is no more limitations to collect data. This is a big improvement of art indeed. Thus, I think the multimodal form of art will emerge more in our sights because of the improvement of technologies. On the other hand, people now like to use “combination” to generate ideas, whereas this act is another signal that the multimodal form is popular. In summary, the new media will develop in more complicated forms due to the change of methods people apply nowadays. And, as Manovich anticipates, the new form of art may change and bring more to the art just like the AR foes.
